When I built the Women's Wellness programme at Taramga, I wanted a space that understood that pregnancy is not an illness, that postnatal recovery takes longer than anyone tells you, and that a woman's body asks for different things at different points in her life.
What I could not do on my own was train the teachers to hold it properly. So I asked Tammy Mittell.
I trained with Tammy myself, back in 2017 and 2018, and took these courses as a student. They changed the way I teach. They also changed my own practice, in a way I did not expect: I stopped pushing through and started moving with the seasons, my own and the ones outside.
Tammy has spent twenty years doing exactly this work, and Real Flow Yoga is one of the few Yoga Alliance Professionals accredited schools specialising entirely in women's health. She has trained over a hundred specialist teachers. She is bringing all three of her accredited courses here to E17, and I could not be more pleased about it.
You can take one course, or you can take all three. Complete the set and you finish with a 140-hour Women's Wellbeing qualification. Take just one and you finish with a proper specialist accreditation in that subject, not a weekend workshop with a certificate at the end.
Tammy has been teaching yoga full-time for twenty years and is the founder of Real Flow Yoga, a Yoga Alliance Professionals accredited training school specialising in women's wellbeing.
Her work centres on the rites of passage women move through: menstruation, pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, menopause. She treats them as profound transitions rather than as physical events to be managed. Her trainings pair sound anatomy and physiology with therapeutic principles and the emotional, psychological and socio-cultural dimensions of women's health.
Her courses go beyond sequences of poses. Teachers learn why and how practices work, how to adapt intelligently to the individual woman in front of them, and how to build a space in which women feel seen, connected and held.
Graduates have gone on to establish their own classes, communities, programmes and businesses. They tend to describe the training as transformational, and Tammy as someone who goes well past what a professional course is required to do.
